Essential Resources for Your Toolbox - This workshop will share a wealth of resources to add to your toolbox when serving patients who seek additional community programs and services, communication and technology accommodations, and ways to empower themselves on coping with or educating others about hearing loss.
Presenter Bio - Kim Davis has been deaf since birth. She has provided public speaking, workshops and training for the past twenty years; has served on several national, regional, state and local committees and councils; and served as an individual and systematic advocate. Kim currently works for the Nebraska Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in Lincoln as an Advocacy Specialist. Her passion is collaborating with individuals and groups that seek to explore effective ways to enhance accommodations through the use of technologies and communication services and to promote self-advocacy, self-sufficiency and independent living skills. On Kim’s free time, she can be found treasuring precious moments with her fiancé, three grown children and four grandchildren.

New Tools to Help Your Hearing Loop Advocacy - Have you ever thought that hearing loop advocacy tools, guidelines, and support could help you get more loops in more venues? The HLAA Get in the Hearing Loop Program team is excited to announce our new Handbook and Guidebook. These booklets join our other hearing loop advocacy toolkit items to help hearing loop advocates successfully champion hearing loops throughout their communities. All are available free for anyone to download anytime.
Telecoils in the Modern Hearing Aid - Telecoils have been a part pf hearing aids almost from the beginning of hearing amplification. In the age of modern digital hearing devices, this long-used technology may seem out of date. However, telecoils are just as relevant today as they were decades ago. This session will provide a historical review of telecoil technology, telecoil utilization in current hearing aids and research illustration the benefits of telecoil use in looped environments. A brief introduction to other wireless technology options will also be provided.

Dementia Care in Health Care Settings - Objectives:
- Identify PBREATHE acronym and how behavioral expressions manifest out of unmet needs.
- Demonstrate the use of evidence-based non-verbal communication and the use of clear speech technique during offered role play scenarios.
- Discuss 3 opportunities for improvement to current staff training, competencies, or tools to enhance current operations when supporting people living with memory loss.
Presenter Bio - Cameo Rogers, CTRS, CDP, CDCM, CADDCT is a recreational therapist and dementia educator. Cameo serves as the Corporate Life Enrichment Manager for Immanuel in Omaha, Nebraska. She is a sought-after speaker and presents at the state and national level regarding implementation of communication and engagement strategies to support individuals living with dementia. She was recognized as the 2017 National Certified Dementia Practitioner of the Year and was published in the peer-reviewed textbook “Foundations of Therapeutic Recreation” regarding best practices in recreational therapy to serve older adults. Cameo serves along with Miekka Zanders as Co-Owner of the gerontology focused “Kickin’ Podcast,” with a mission of “Sharing wisdom through conversation.”
